Protocol Mediation
New protocol technologies are constantly introduced to telecom management.
But equipment and applications based on legacy protocols still need
to be maintained. This introduces a N*N increasing number of interoperability
issues to be solved, increasing the overhead for developing mediation
software and adaptation solutions.
For the equipment vendor, the main benefit of this solution is
the ability to offer integration with an existing management system
at he's customers. This is an increasingly important competitive
argument. The customers may only wants the equipment, not the whole
package including yet another proprietary management system.
Also, the Management Application Vendors may benefit from such
Protocol Mediators in that they can offer their solution to a broader
range of vendor specific equipments without having to tailor their
applications to each vendor - otherwise a monstrous maintenance
overhead that may easily "pull the teeth" out of that
vendor.
Solution
Q3ADE 3G offers a wide
range of features to simplify the development of Protocol converters
working in real time. Actually Q3ADE has been used several times
to convert between two proprietary interfaces. In these chases the
Q3 interface is not utilized explicitly. But Q3ADE still offers
a very flexible and competitive environment for this kind of tasks.
As a general rule, the benefit of using protocol mediators increase
as the system becomes more and more heterogeneous, i.e. that it
consist of more and more different technologies.
Benefits
Using Q3ADE for implementing embedded protocol mediation provides
you with the following benefits:
- Intermediate or embedded SW acting as "converter plugs"
- Allows an equipment vendor to plug into existing Management
Applications
- Allows a management application vendor to abstract from vendor
specific protocols
- Relevant in highly heterogeneous configurations
In recent business cases
you will see several examples of this kind of applications.
